How I Crochet a Granny Square Blanket
A walkthrough of my favorite blanket pattern, square by square.

Granny Squares
Every blanket starts with a single square — a magic ring, three rounds of clusters, and a color change that sets the mood for the whole piece.
Picking colors
I lay out every skein I own and remove colors one at a time until the palette feels calm. For this blanket that meant terracotta, sage, dusty rose and mustard on cream.
Joining
Squares are joined as-you-go with slip stitches, then the whole blanket gets a scalloped border. It takes an evening — and it's the most satisfying part.
